My favorite part about nature is the sounds that come out of it. It’s cliche and all but theres something about the combination of the wind whistling, the bees buzizng, and the crickets chirping that invokes a peaceful feeling inside. The white noise that is created in nature sets the scene for an experience in nature, whether physical or spiritual in nature. As I sit out here waiting for the sun to set, I can feel the presence of many other living things around me, although they are out of sight. Sounds give you another lens of seeing what cannot be scene. While I cannot physically see these bugs or birds, I can feel there presence through the sounds they make. A valuable nature experience is the combination of all your senses, and sound is the first one you are exposed to. Before you can see over that hill you’ve been climbing, or touch the crowning rock on a mountain, or even taste the golden apple from the apple tree, you hear what is going on there first. Sound is the introduction to a spiritual experience in nature. In movies sound is used to help cue the mood for the setting of the scene. God uses these same sounds of nature to create an orchestra of grand proportions. A tidal wave across the ocean can cause the wonderful sound of calm waves washing upon the beaches of california that we find relaxing. The irony of how the world work and interacts is intriguing. One man’s paradise, can be another man’s nightmare. It all comes down to personal preference, and the mental state we are in when we interact with nature. If we go hiking with the intent to have a spiritual experience, we can help create that for ourselves by paying attention to the threads that make up the fabric of nature that is so marvelous. A single thread that is my favorite is again the sounds. To not believe in god after the musicality of this earth is simply unfathomable to me. Music does not come out of nowhere. There is always a composer. Just the same as how people marvel at the visual aspects to nature and the gift that god gave us, we must also recognize the musical gift we have been given.
